The ‘Griffin-Woodhouse Totally Enclosed Grease Packed Swivel ™’ was conceived, prototyped and patented by us in 1990 and first came into use in the offshore oil industry in 1992.

The GW Swivel was designed to eliminate the problem of torque build up experienced in deepwater chain and/or wire rope combination mooring lines. Furthermore, it is designed in such a way as to easily run over a fairlead or stern roller at high loads without lateral deformation or damage.

The GW Swivel has a unique patented bearing that is impact resistant and crush proof. This coupled with the application of grease in the swivelling mechanism results in an extremely low coefficient of friction value 0.06μs, which allows the swivel to continue turning at high loads.
